Procedures for obtaining a Business License in Bhutan

Procedures for obtaining a business license in Bhutan

1. Trade License:

  • Obtain license application form (available at http://www.mti.gov.bt or from BCCI);
  • Obtain Security clearance for trade license (The security clearance can be processed directly with the RBP);
  • Two copies of passport size photos per license;
  • License fee;

2. Service License:

  • Obtain license application form (available at http://www.mti.gov.bt or from BCCI);
  • Obtain Security clearance for trade license (The security clearance can be processed directly with the RBP);
  • Two copies of passport size photos per license;
  • Clearance from competent authorities depending on the type of license;
  • Two copies Project profiles for some services. (Project profile guidelines available at RTIOs);
  • Process Environment clearance from RTIO for selected businesses;
  • Project approval from Dept of Industry if Project cost is more than 10 million;
  • Signed MOU with MOLHR if total the total number of employee is more than 10 persons;
  • License fee

3. Contract License:

  • Obtain license application form (available at http://www.mti.gov.bt or from BCCI);
  • Obtain Security clearance for trade license (The security clearance can be processed directly with the RBP);
  • Two copies of passport size photos per license;
  • A copy of Construction Development Board registration certificate issued by the Ministry of Works and Human Settlement;
  • License fee;

4. Tourism License:

  • Obtain license application form (available at http://www.mti.gov.bt or from BCCI);
  • Obtain Security clearance for trade license (The security clearance can be processed directly with the RBP);
  • Three copies of passport size photos per license;
  • Letter from Department of Tourism;
  • License fee;

5. Temporary Contract License:

  • Obtain Temporary contract license forms from RTIO;
  • Letter from the concerned Dept/Ministry awarding the contract;
  • Contract Agreement;
  • License fee of Nu. 15,000;

6. Ownership transfer:

  • Obtain ownership transfer form (available at http://www.mti.gov.bt or from BCCI);
  • Transferee should obtain Security clearance for trade license (The security clearance can be processed directly with the RBP);
  • Original license;
  • Two copies of passport size photos of the Transferee;
  • Agreement letter from the transferor;
  • Booklet cost of Nu.100;

7. Location Shifting:

  • Obtain location transfer form (available at http://www.mti.gov.bt or from BCCI);
  • Original copy of the license;
  • Booklet cost of Nu 100;

8. Registration Name Change:

  • Application to the Regional Director with the new registration name.
